A Registration Authority (RA) acts as a trusted intermediary responsible for verifying the identity of individuals before they receive qualified electronic signatures or certificates. The RA validates identity documents, confirms personal data accuracy, and ensures compliance with eIDAS regulations and qualified trust service provider standards. This identity verification step is critical because it establishes the legal validity and trustworthiness of digital signatures — without proper identity verification, electronic signatures cannot achieve qualified status under eIDAS.
